TREATMENT: In case of an emergency, illness, or injury of your pet, you, the owner, give the Emergency Contact listed above and GVH consent to treat my pet as our doctor(s) deem necessary and ACCEPT all charges.

We will call to notify you if a problem occurs. Any treatment administered to your pet while boarding will include an exam fee, diagnostics, and/or medication charged. If a fecal is taken at time of boarding and is positive for parasites, or if fleas/ticks are found on your pet, they will be treated during the boarding period at your expense.

The lodging facility within Gibraltar Veterinary Hospital is state of the art. Our lodging staff is attentive and cares for your pet as if they were their own. The pets are housed in segregated kennels which are cleaned and disinfected daily. Our entire staff has your pets safety in mind at all times. All dogs boarding are walked at least 3 times a day, have fresh bedding as needed, fresh water and are fed to your specifications. We offer extended services to further enhance your pets’ stay with us.

Kennel Cough/Influenza: All dogs boarding in our facility are required to be vaccinated against Bordetella and Influenza,
both upper respiratory bacteria causing “kennel cough”. It is important to know that even though your pet is vaccinated, vaccines are not always 100% effective and these vaccines does not protect your pet against all strains of upper respiratory infections. Our lodge is equipped with an air exchange system, which brings in fresh outdoor air to be distributed by the air
conditioning. The system helps to flush out much of the air borne pathogens. If your pet develops a cough within a couple days of going home he/she should be examined by one of our Veterinarians. Cats: When cats are stressed they can develop a mild upper respiratory infection. All cats are observed closely and if necessary the medical team will determine if medication is necessary.

**At times, even the well-adjusted pet can experience stress while staying in a boarding facility. They are exposed to many different sounds and smells, are away from their home, family and regular routine. Below are some common symptoms dogs and/or cats display when stress increases.

• Decreased Eating: Dogs and cats may stop eating because they are away from home and their normal routine, should your pet stop eating we will do our best to entice them to eat by topping their regular food with baby food, tuna fish or just sitting with them to comfort them while encouraging them to eat.
• Excessive Drinking: Some dogs get very nervous in the kennel and will drink water excessively, leading to excessive urination and possibly urinating in the kennel, which they would never do at home. In these cases we watch them
  closely and assure they get out to urinate more frequently.
• Reduced or Avoiding Urination Some dogs may be reluctant to urinate in our yard. There may be too many smells of other dogs or just stress from being away from their own yard and a different routine. Bladder or urinary tract infections can be caused by not completely emptying the bladder. In these cases we allow the dogs extra time to walk around and sniff to get used to the different smells in the yard or we walk them to a different area of the property.
• Diarrhea/Vomiting: If a pet develops diarrhea or vomiting during his/her stay we will phone you to ask for permission to treat your pet, if you request this. Completing the paperwork with your wishes should your pet become ill while in the lodge is extremely important so staff can take immediate action to care for your pet.
• Happy Tail: Some dogs are extremely excited to see so much activity right in front of them. They stand at the front of
  the kennel and wag their tail excessively. (Mostly large dogs with long tails) Their tail hits each side of the kennel wall and can cause sores on the tail. These sores will most likely heal without issue. In rare cases it may take a
  prolonged period of time for the tail to heal and in extreme cases surgical intervention may be necessary. When we notice a dog developing a sore on its tail we place padding along the sides of the kennel walls to help cushion the impact and sometimes we wrap the tail in bandaging material to cushion the impact.
• Nose Scrapes: Some dogs will stand at the front of the kennel and rub their nose on the gate as other dogs walk by. They are trying to get a good sniff of who their neighbor is. In these cases we may lube their nose with Vaseline to prevent further injury or place a padded board on the gate to prevent them from further injury.
• Voice Change: Some dogs are excited to see so many people, dogs and activity that they bark more than they would usually bark while at home. We can place a padded board on the front of the gate so they cannot see other dogs but, they may still bark more than usual which can cause a sore throat much like you would get if you are cheering on your
  favorite team at a sporting event.
• Excessive panting and pacing: While in the kennel dogs may pace back and forth. Torn toe nails and scraped foot pads can result from pacing. We layer each kennel with comfy blankets as much as possible. Pacing and panting can be exhausting, your dog may seem lethargic and sleepy once you get him/her home if they have been pacing/panting for a few days.
• Smell from being housed in a kennel situation: As much as we clean and care for your pet, he/she is still being housed in a kennel and may have a slight smell when you pick them up. We do offer a bathing service for your pet which can be scheduled the day of pick up; please see the receptionist to Make An Appointment and get an estimated cost.
• Two dogs in the same kennel: Many times dogs from the same home can be housed together in the same kennel. In most cases this does not cause an issue. In some instances the pets, being in a confined area, may get on each other nerves and get into a scuffle, which they may never do at home. In these cases we must separate the dogs. If an injury
  has occurred during the scuffle we will contact you immediately and treat any wounds that may have occurred. This is rare but has occurred. You will be responsible for the treatment should this occur with your dogs.

Please note, in order to obtain a boarding reservation, you must call the hospital. Submitting the Lodging Check In Form does not secure a reservation for your pet.
